Oskar ter Mors (NL)

Oskar is a long-time HEMA practitioner with a passion for the Messer, longsword, two-handers, halberds and armoured combat. Known for his structured approach and deep source knowledge that he is sharing via his YouTube channel, Virtual Fechtschule, and academic research, he brings a balance of technical precision and practical application to every class. Oskar believes martial arts should be both serious and enjoyable — and that learning how to fight with any medieval weapon is one of the most rewarding journeys you can take.

The tactical treasure

Many HEMA-ists will nowadays agree that fencing requires a tactical framework to help you navigate the clash of steel. While using the tactical circle from olympic fencing has become immensely popular as a result, this workshop will instead explore the possibilities of using the five words (Vor, Nach, Indes, Sterck, Swach) for that purpose. We will explore this 'treasure of the art' through the lens of some pieces from Lecküchner's fight book, learning not only the meaning of these words, but also how to apply them in your fencing. As we're diving into the core of a very Liechenauerian concept, all of this will also be interesting to longsword fencers.

Gear

For this workshop, any single handed sword will do, but to get the most out of it, full upper body protection is recommended.
