Managing Combat Stress

Many fencers do beautifully when fencing at the club, but fall apart when the pressure of competition hits. This workshop focuses on experiencing, recognizing, coping, and ultimately harnessing the “adrenaline dump” that comes when a person is put under intense and often sudden stress. We will combine discussion of the psychological and physiological factors of stress with intense physical activity to trigger a similar physical response, and learn to train with that response in mind. This class is physically, mentally, and even emotionally very intense, and should only be joined by people in good health and who are willing to break out of their comfort zone into doing something hard.
